Looking for suggestions....

My guest room needs some freshening up. I need some ideas! Please leave your suggestions. Its kind of a beachy theme in the room. The walls are a bright yellow...this will not change..cause I don't feel like painting them over. The roman shades are a navy blue. The bedspread is navy on one side and a lighter blue on the other. You'll see in the picture that I have the bed up on risers. I like a tall bed. I just need to get a bed skirt for it. I am wondering should I change the bedspread out (FYI the curtains are striped), keep the bedspread and use a white bed skirt? Or another color? I have those little plates to put on the wall too. And there is that wheel..Should I paint it white or stain it. I was going to hang it on that wall (see pic, I was trying it out)...but, it looks so alone and small on that wall. So..you can see from the pics I do need some help ;-)
Now...if my family, who actually uses this room when visiting, is reading..feel free to offer suggestions too :-)

Thanks you guys!!

If it were my bed, this is what I would do: Keep the curtains as they are (love them!) and buy a white bed skirt. I would also buy a white quilt and use it as the bedspread and fold up your blue one at the end of the bed. Then put a mix of blue and white pillows on it. As for the white quilt...if you have a Linens N Things by you then go there because they are going out of business and are having a sale. They have a white quilt that is their brand and is regularly $40 for any size. Last I checked, everything was 20% off but it could be more now. If not, TJMaxx always has white quilts.

Im with Shannon! but i would add some jean material or a splash of red somewhere as you have the nautical thing going on! I love the curtains and the dark blue keep them for sure.

Good suggestions! I would paint that wheel a shade of red, you can buy inexpensive netting (like a fish net) Hang that behind the wheel on the wall and then put a shelf up under the wheel and place the plates on it, add the same shade of red bedskirting (it could be a darkish red, not bright) and then get an inexpensive soft blanket to place at the end of the bed that is the reddish shade too. It would really pop. The netting will add dimension and interest....you could even hang some nautical things that were light wt. on the netting. Something easy to change out in the future too. I LOVE that yellow! Just some thoughts!

I think I might stain the wheel to match the chest of drawers and then hang it with the grouping of plates.

What a pretty room! I think the yellow walls work perfectly with the blues. I would use the color of the frame above the bed - it looks red to me - as your accent color. White quilt, bedskirt and mix up the throw pillows with some blue & white, yellow and red.
I would make the tables on either side of the bed taller too - maybe use the chest I can see below the window?
I think the wheel needs to be darker, either stained or that red would look great! Do you have any photographs (from vacations, etc) that have lighthouses/beach scenes that you could frame and hang with the plates and the wheel?
Can't wait to see what you decide to do!

I just found your blog and must say I will be coming back to check out some of your recipes! I think we will try the garlic chicken one tonight for dinner. Just one thought on your room. Have you thought about painting the wheel Navy? That might really stand out from your yellow walls. My son's room is done in a beachy/nautical theme and he has that ship wheel too. Also, there are some cool beachy things (paddles, buoys, etc.) at pottery barn and PBKids.
